Although it is not getting much press coverage, executives are growing concerned about rising insurance premiums and coverage erosion in 2009, with 72% of CFOs expecting certain insurance premiums to rise next year. On average, CFOs expect insurance premiums to rise 5–10% in 2009, especially Directors and Officers Liability Insurance. “The insurance market is, without doubt, at the bottom of the cycle. We are hearing that some insurance management boards are mandating up to 10% increases on all renewals.”

Russia's Antitrust Google Decision One More Reason to Proceed with Caution

Our view: Foreign companies operating in Russia are reporting to us a growing rate of seemingly arbitrary government interventions from Russian authorities, seriously limiting the profitability of their Russian operations. In light of this real and growing problem, companies considering entry into the Russian market are well advised to consider joint ventures, not just for the benefits of limiting capital at risk and gaining local market knowledge, but because a good local Russian partner will provide the relationships and political know-how to mitigate the effects of such intrusions.
