On average, CFOs expect insurance premiums to rise 5–10% in 2009, especially Directors and Officers Liability Insurance. “The insurance market is, without doubt, at the bottom of the cycle. Russia's Antitrust Google Decision One More Reason to Proceed with Caution The Wall Street Journal, 24 October 2008 Russian regulators thwarted Google Inc.'s $140 million acquisition of an online advertising firm, and the decision could reflect the growing anxiety about the online giant's widening global footprint and a renewed sense of Russian nationalism, according to analysts. |
Our view: Foreign companies operating in Russia are reporting to us a growing rate of seemingly arbitrary government interventions from Russian authorities, seriously limiting the profitability of their Russian operations. In light of this real and growing problem, companies considering entry into the Russian market are well advised to consider joint ventures, not just for the benefits of limiting capital at risk and gaining local market knowledge, but because a good local Russian partner will provide the relationships and political know-how to mitigate the effects of such intrusions. |
